CCL 2020 Call for Mentor Volunteers

In order to help student authors improve their paper writing skills, we introduce a mentoring system into CCL 2020. NLP researchers of high academic level, rich writing experience and willingness to give paper writing guidance to students in the research field are invited to serve as volunteer mentors for CCL 2020. Click here to apply.

The main role of mentors is to help students who submit their papers into CCL 2020 improve the quality of writing on their submission. The detailed procedure is as follows:

  • 2020/03/10: Online application starts for mentor volunteers. CCL 2020 releases call for mentor volunteers and opens up online application. Mentor volunteers can their interest online, providing their name, email address, research area, number of submissions they offer to mentor, and their personal webpage etc. In order to limit the workload of mentors, we ask the mentor volunteer to choose 1 -- 3 submissions for mentoring.

  • 2020/04/15: Online application closes for mentor volunteers. CCL 2020 mentor chair reviews mentor application and finalizes a list of mentors.

  • 2020/04/20: Online application starts for student authors. CCL 2020 releases the list of mentors online, including the name, research area, number of submissions each mentor guides and the personal webpages. Students should first submit their paper to the CCL 2020 paper submission system, and then fill an online form with their submission ID. Students are allowed to select up to three intended mentors. Note that the track of their submission must be consistent with the research area of their mentors. CCL will try to balance the number of mentors in each track.

  • 2020/05/01: Online application closes for student applicants. The mentor chair forwards student information (including submission title, abstract and intended mentors) to each track. Mentors select submissions that they want to mentor. The mentor chair finalizes a mentor assignment after receiving mentor feedback. In case a mentor also serves as a reviewer in the conference, according to the double-blind review rule, the mentor will not review the submission he gives advice to.

  • 2020/05/07: Mentoring process starts. The mentor chair notifies students and their mentors to kick start the mentoring process. The mentor and students will be in direct contact in this process. Mentors are advised not to share information of the submission without consent of the author.

  • 2020/05/27: Mentor process finishes. We allow mentors to give guidance until the submission deadline. If the submission is finally accepted the mentor can continue to give advice for final version, and additionally give the students suggestions on oral or poster presentation.

Mentors are voluntary and will not receive payment. CCL 2020 will list the mentors in the conference website and work report, giving them sincere acknowledgement. For papers that are published after the mentoring process, we encourage students to give acknowledgement to their mentors in the published paper.

The program committee of CCL 2020 is thankful for the volunteer work of each mentor!
